the culprit.

That, my friends, is what caused water to gush wildly out of our ceiling a few weeks ago.  The pipe was COMPLETELY corroded.

The pipe burst on a Saturday night and the plumber came to fix it on the following Tuesday morning.  We were unable to find a shut off that allowed us to have partial water, so we just shut off the water main and made due for a few days.  I totally recommend this approach.  The plumber told us that if we had them come the day we called (Monday), it would have cost us double.  And if we called Sunday it would have been even more.

Rich paid attention to the plumber work and thinks that he could do any sort of similar repair in the future.  We decided to skip the DIY fix this time in order to start a relationship with a local plumber in case of an actual emergency down the line.  Also, there might be some plumbing work we aren't comfortable doing as we start to renovate the bathroom.
